Today is 3/28 and this review is based on a men’s cut and gray blending that occurred in the afternoon of 3/10.
The Good:
Let me start off with the good before I get into why I gave it one star. First, I have curly hair and it’s tough to find someone who can cut it properly. But, my stylist/barber did a wonderful job on the cut. It’s the best I’ve had in quite some time. 10/10 on the cut. Had I just gotten a cut, then this would be a 5 star review.
Unfortunately, I also got my hair “gray blended.”
The Bad:
Ok, so this all has to do with a situation involving my hair getting the “Gray Blending” service which is supposed to be a $40 service and a very basic coloring just to get rid of some of my grays.
My experience soured at the register and then over the last few weeks since my gray blending occurred.
When I set my appointment online I specifically chose the men’s cut $33 and the Gray Blending $40. That’s a $77 total. Cool. Seems normal.
But, when I got to the register my total came out to around $129 (after tip it was about $153). I said, “Whoa” in astonishment. At which point the lady who rang me up said, “Oh your stylist didn’t do the gray blending she did a more permanent color. You shouldn’t see any gray again until your roots come in, if that makes sense.”
For those reading…no one told me that a more expensive service was being rendered. This was not at all discussed. A service was done that I hadn’t asked for and would not have asked for given the price. I’m just a regular dude, with regular hair length, who wants a regular gray blending, nothing fancy. Hell, I would’ve just done one of those box colorings if I knew I was going to get recked like this.
As you could imagine, I was not happy. BUT, in my head, I said “You know what, if this is going to last a long time like they say, maybe it will be ok and end up being something I enjoy.” Afterall, you pay for what you get, right? I was surely paying, so I hoped to get a lot of time with the color out of it.
Did I? You may ask.
Not at all.
In the first week, black color began leaving my head like I was a coal worker washing away a day in the mines. By week two almost all my grays were back as shown in the photos I posted. So, what exactly did I pay for?? Other than an absolute hair dye scam, no clue. Now my hair has this weird mix of colors that I can’t even describe. Overall, I’m super pissed about it all and want my money back. Swerve this place like a turtle shell in Mario Kart.
Edit: After my experience, I was contacted by a manager at Bishops. Her name was Lydia, and with incredible empathy and a genuine concern for what happened, she heard me out and made things right. She went above and beyond for me in how she handled the situation and turned my perception of the establishment around. I am grateful for that because the haircut I received there was the best I’ve had in YEARS and I wanted nothing more than to like the place. Her customer service was impeccable and gave me that reason to like it again and go back. After all, mistakes happen and nothing wrong with that as long as you do right in the end. They did just that so 10/10 would recommend.
